J. Thomas Hill, president and CEO of Vulcan Materials Co., will speak to the Introduction to Business, Engineering and Leadership class on Monday, Sept. 19, at 4 p.m. in 1120 Shelby Center. Hill’s talk is free and open to the public.

“Having a leader of Mr. Hill’s caliber speak to our students will help impart valuable wisdom to this class,” said John Evans, the course’s instructor and chair of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering. “We are excited that he has agreed to share with our students the defining elements of his successful leadership at Vulcan.”

Hill has led Vulcan Materials since July 2014 and was also elected chairman of the board in December 2015. He first joined the company in 1979 and has held many leadership positions within it. Hill worked for Redlands Stone Products from 1990 to 1996 in sales and operations management, before rejoining Vulcan as vice president and general manager of its southwest division.

Hill is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and the executive management program at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business.

His talk is sponsored by the Thomas Walter Center for Technology Management.
