Apple CEO Tim Cook, ’82 industrial engineering, has been appointed the lead independent director of Nike’s board of directors, effective June 30. Cook’s appointment is part of a shakeup that sees Mark Parker, Nike president and CEO, become chairman of the board and Nike co-founder Phil Knight retire and become chairman emeritus.

Cook has served on the Nike board since 2005, chairs its compensation committee and serves on the nominating and corporate governance committee.
