Mechanical engineering student-athlete wins NCAA fan favorite contest

Kasey Cooper won the NCAA's Elite 90 award.

Mechanical engineering junior Kasey Cooper, a standout player on the Auburn University softball team, was named the winner of the NCAA’s Elite 90 Fan Favorite contest Thursday evening. 

Cooper received the honor after garnering 6,050 votes in the final round of public voting. The contest pitted 90 student-athletes against each other over nine days and three rounds of online voting. The student-athletes were chosen for the contest by having the highest cumulative GPA from those participating at the finals site of each of the NCAA’s 90 championships.

The Elite 90 Fan Favorite award is the latest in a long list of accolades for Cooper, who plays third base. She was recently named espnW Softball Player of the Year after leading Auburn to one of the best seasons in its history and setting seven single-season program records and four career records. She has maintained a 4.0 GPA, was selected as a CoSIDA Academic All-American and was named the SEC Player of the Year and the Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
