Auburn University's Department of Chemical Engineering has been selected for the 2015 Conference of Southern Graduate Schools (CSGS)/Educational Testing Service Award for Excellence and Innovation in Graduate Education. Virginia Davis, graduate program chair and alumni professor in chemical engineering, impressed the awards committee with her work in leading the department's efforts to recruit, enroll and retain Latino students and women in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields.
"We are deeply grateful to Dr. Davis for leading our efforts to embrace students from diverse backgrounds," said Mario Eden, department chair of chemical engineering. "This award is evidence of her hard work in bringing women and underrepresented minorities into the Auburn chemical engineering family."
Davis has been invited to accept the award on behalf of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Auburn University this March at the CSGS annual meeting in New Orleans.
