IBM researcher to discuss newest methods to improve performance

Jiuxing Liu, IBM research staff member in the advanced operating systems group at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center, will present "Virtualization Polling Engine (VPE): Using Dedicated Central Processing Units to Accelerate Input/Output Virtualization" on Friday, April 23, at 11 a.m. in 1126 Shelby Center. Liu's presentation is hosted by the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering.

Liu will discuss a new approach to input/output virtualization called a virtualization polling engine (VPE), which uses central processing unit cores to aid in the virtualization of input/output devices through an event-driven execution model. Liu will also explain his prototype and research showing VPE as a promising approach to high performance input/output virtualization in the multicore era.

Liu received his doctoral degree from Ohio State University. His research interests include high-speed interconnects, input/output virtualization, server input/output architecture, storage systems and high-performance computing.
