Applications are now being accepted for the Mark A. Spencer Creative Mentorship Award. This award encourages and recognizes the special efforts of engineering faculty who take an interest in the life and development of students through mentoring. It rewards both a faculty member and a student for their creative collaboration.

To be eligible for this award, the faculty member must be a member of the engineering faculty and the student must be an undergraduate enrolled in the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering. The faculty candidate must have a tangible mentoring relationship with a student that focuses on a project directed toward solving a problem or reaching a goal. Ultimately, the enhancement and development of intellectual curiosity and engineering education are the mentoring qualities sought.

The annual award totals $10,000, with $5,000 being awarded to the selected faculty member and $5,000 to the chosen student. In the event that the selected application includes multiple faculty members or students, $5,000 will be split evenly among eligible faculty members and $5,000 among the eligible students. Awardees will be recognized at the College of Engineering's Spring Awards Ceremony.

Applicants (student and faculty member) should provide a packet containing:

  • a cover letter detailing the project and the mentoring relationship
  • supporting materials that describe the project in detail and corroborate the relationship

Packets are to due engineering department heads by January 20.
