Auburn University's Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering will host its final summer seminar on Friday, July 24, at 11:15 a.m. in 3210 Shelby Center. Byung Soo Kim, doctoral student in the department, will present "Dynamic Slotting and Cartonization Problem in Zone-based Carton Picking System."
Kim will present his research on the turnover rate of stock keeping units (SKUs) in warehouses that support companies with Internet ordering methods. He studied a distribution center that is a zone-based carton picking system, which is dynamically replenished with specific SKUs between each pick wave. Kim will demonstrate the distribution center's two main challenges, which are interrelated and can be solved simultaneously. He will also present an efficient methodology for solving the two issues systematically.
