If your child is creative, likes to know how things work and loves math and science, solving problems and working with a team of people then you might want to consider TIGERs (Teams and Individuals Guided by Engineering Resources) Camp. Offered by the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering, this resident camp is designed to expose students in grades 7-10 to the world of engineering. This year we will offer two camps: Junior TIGERs, targeting rising seventh and eighth graders and Senior TIGERs, focusing on rising ninth and tenth graders. Openings still remain for Junior TIGERs. Although Senior TIGERs is full, names are being taken for the waiting list.
Engineers make the world a better place by designing things that make life easier, safer or that protect the environment. They are also well paid and report high job satisfaction. Yet studies show that middle school students know very little about careers in engineering. TIGERs Camp is designed to bridge this information gap.
Camp activities include workshops, tours and lectures guided by engineers and engineering students who will answer questions about what courses students need to take in middle and high school to prepare them for success in college and a fulfilling career in engineering. Students will also participate in a number of hands-on activities in a variety of engineering disciplines.
Students will reside in air conditioned residence halls and dine in campus cafeterias, with 24-hour supervision by experienced counselors. The camp will be conducted by faculty, staff and students from the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering, ensuring that students receive a broad overview of the engineering profession.
Enrollment is limited. Senior TIGERs is June 14th through June 19th ($539.00). Junior TIGERs is June 21nd through June 26th ($469.00).
The registration fee includes a $25 non-refundable registration charge, campus housing, all meals, all materials and supplies, organized social activities, a camp T-shirt and 8x10 matted camp photo. A welcome event is scheduled on Sunday from 6- 7:30 p.m. Don't miss the fun!
