Polymer and fiber engineering student Samantha Bird has been chosen for the Marshall Space Flight Center's 2009 NASA Academy. The program is an intense 10-week summer experience in Huntsville, Ala., where Bird will live and interact with other interns through research and group projects, as well as attend educational events with NASA leaders and experts. She is one of three engineering students to receive research fellowships from Auburn University in the 2008-2009 academic year. Bird conducts research on shape memory polymers with faculty member Maria Auad in Auburn's Department of Polymer and Fiber Engineering.
