B.Y. Huang, president of Central South University of China, will present a seminar on Monday, Dec. 15 at 10 a.m. in 1124 Shelby Center. He will provide an overview of the university, located in Changsha, China, as well as opportunities for international education. While on campus, Huang will also meet with engineering faculty to discuss possibilities for international cooperation with Auburn University. His visit is sponsored by the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The seminar is open to the public.
An academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Huang is considered an expert in powder and materials metallurgy. His research in high-performance brake materials has found applications in both the automotive and airplane industries.
Huang earned his bachelor's degree in metallurgy engineering from Central South University of Technology and his master's and doctoral degrees in materials science at Iowa State University. He currently serves as director of the National Advanced Materials Committee.
