John Mason, Auburn University associate provost and vice president for research, has appointed Ralph Zee as the acting associate vice president for research in the Office of the Vice President for Research. Zee will hold this position until a search is conducted and a permanent associate vice president for research has been selected by a committee. Zee will promote and develop multidisciplinary research initiatives across Auburn's campus, coordinate activities among the associate deans for research, and work on projects to improve proposal development and submission. He will also represent the Office of the Vice President for Research in certain external roles in the state and national arena. He is a professor and associate dean for research in the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering. Zee served as acting associate provost and interim vice president for research from January 2007 until September 2008. He is a member of the American Society for Engineering Education and a lead reviewer for the National Science Foundation and U.S. Civilian R&D Foundation. Zee joined the Auburn faculty in 1986 and has received honors and awards such as Outstanding Faculty of Materials Engineering and Alumni Professorship. Mason extends his appreciation to Zee for his willingness to serve in this capacity on a part-time and interim basis. After the appropriate candidate for this position has been found, Zee will return to his full-time duty in engineering.
