Johnson elected vice president of CPMT society of IEEE

R. Wayne Johnson, Samuel Ginn Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has been elected vice president of publications for the Components, Packaging and Manufacturing (CPMT) society of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). CPMT is an international society which publishes three peer-reviewed technical journals as well as a newsletter. CPMT also sponsors a number of technical workshops and conferences.

Johnson directs AU's Laboratory for Electronics Assembly and Packaging, conducting research in methods and materials for the packaging and manufacturing of electronics for high performance systems as well as extreme environments such as the surface of the moon and Venus.

CPMT's fields of interest encompass materials science, chemical processes, reliability technology, mathematical modeling, education and training used in the design and production of discretes, hybrids and electronic packaging, as well as fiber optics, connector technology and semiconductor processing. Johnson is an at-large member of the CPMT Board of Governors and editor-in-chief of the IEEE Transactions on Electronics Packaging Manufacturing.
