Donald Watkins' Masada Resource Group LLC, which patented a process for turning household garbage into ethanol, said today it has donated a biomass pilot plant in Muscle Shoals to Auburn University.

Masada said it recently acquired the facility from the Tennessee Valley Authority as part of a collaboration with Auburn and PureVision Technology Inc. of Ft. Lupton, Co. Masada has worked with TVA and the U.S. Department of Energy on its technology.

"The research Auburn and PureVision are doing will allow us to continue the cutting edge research of TVA and the DOE in developing alternative fuels, and will eventually help us reduce America's dependence on foreign oil," Watkins said.

The TVA biomass facilities were used by Masada to conduct tests on the company's waste-to-ethanol process and on equipment the company is using in a waste-to-ethanol plant Masada is preparing to build in Middletown, N.Y.
