Doctoral student Pinar Kaymaz will be giving the next graduate seminar in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering on Wednesday, July 11 at 2 p.m. in Dunstan 202. Her lecture, "Electric power generation expansion in deregulated markets," will discuss the problems associated with increasing electric power generation capacity in an existing power network. In deregulated power markets, expansion decisions are made in a competitive environment where power producers, distributors and consumers all make their own decisions that maximize payoff from power transactions. This research aims to integrate the competitive power market structure into the generation expansion models. Two new generation expansion models will be introduced. Numerical examples and analysis on the use of the models will be given using a 24-bus power network.
