Thirty chemical engineering students from Auburn participated in the Southern Regional Conference of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), held at the University of South Carolina. More than twenty colleges from around the southeast participated.

Three Auburn students took home individual awards, one in each of the three sessions of the research paper competition. Jennifer Wilder, advised by Mario Eden, placed second; Jeney Zhang, advised by Mark Byrne, and Jonathan Sutton, advised by Chris Roberts, placed third. Tuskegee University student Shondra Pass placed second in the research poster competition after doing her work with Byrne. Auburn's fuel cell powered car placed fifth in the race competition and third in the poster competition, qualifying it for the national competition to be held in Salt Lake City in November. Amar Tiwari is the car team captain and Bob Ashurst is the team's faculty advisor.

Auburn will host the 2008 AIChE Southern Regional Conference next April.
