Yildirim (Bill) Omurtag, professor of engineering and science and founding dean of the School of Engineering, Math, and Science at Robert Morris University, will be delivering a lecture, "Educating the Engineer of the Year 2020 and Planning Academic Research," on Wednesday, April 4, at 2:30 p.m. in Dunstan 202.

After reviewing the recent National Academy of Engineering works outlining the "Engineer of the Year 2020" and defining the changes in engineering education in the US, Omurtag will discuss some of the changes needed in educational processes. He will then review the nature of academic research and give an example of how planning a doctoral dissertation can provide results while saving a lot of time in the process.

Omurtag received bachelor's and doctorate degrees from Iowa State University in mechanical and industrial engineering. He also holds a master's degree in materials engineering from Middle East Tech University in Turkey. He has served as a faculty member at Iowa State, California State and Wichita State Universities, and as professor and chairman of engineering management at the University of Missouri-Rolla prior to accepting his current position at Robert Morris.
