The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering will be holding its next seminar on Tuesday, October 24 at 3:30 p.m. in Dunstan 202. The speaker is John Hill, a recent doctoral graduate from the University of Iowa.

Hill's lecture, "Injury Prevention: Integrating Human Factors and Biomechanics," will propose a process to effectively address the potential for crash related injuries by integrating research in human factors and biomechanics to identify the causes of injuries. The speaker will use a case study of injuries resulting from vehicle crashes that specifically evaluates injuries to higher risk occupants. National crash databases will also be used to determine the extent to which these occupants are subject to severe injuries in crashes. Additional studies will be used to assess vehicle safety features. Injuries will be examined relative to differences in system use in order to develop design recommendations.
