Lucida Xu, a doctoral student in civil engineering, has received two prestigious awards from two professional groups: the 2006 Alabama Water Environment Association's outstanding graduate student scholarship award and the 2006 Alabama- Mississippi Section of the American Water Works Association's outstanding graduate student scholarship award. In addition, she has been recognized as the university's outstanding international graduate student for 2006.

"It is an honor to work with talented, hardworking students such as Lucida," says her advisor Don Zhao, assistant professor in civil engineering. "Recognition from so many associations says a lot about her abilities."

The awards received by Xu come on the heels of three other awards received by fellow civil engineering graduate students. Thomas R. Steinwinder was named one of Auburn's top ten master's students; doctoral student Feng He received the 2006 graduate student award in environmental chemistry from the American Chemical Society; and Zhong Xiong, also a doctoral student in civil engineering, was awarded third place in poster presentation at the Alabama Water Resources Research Conference in September of 2005.
