An article by Alex Simonian, an associate professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, has been named to ScienceDirect's TOP25 Hottest Articles list. Titled "Nanoparticle-based optical biosensors for the direct detection of organophosphate chemical warfare agents and pesticides," the piece was included in the journal Analytica Chimica Acta in April. The article details a strategy for the detection of pesticides and chemical warfare agents using gold nanoparticles and fluorescent beacons.
"It's wonderful to get this acknowledgement and recognition from my colleagues," Simonian said. "I hope to have to opportunity to be on this list again."
The TOP25 list was started last year and is updated every three months. In order to determine its TOP25, ScienceDirect tracks the number of times scientific articles are downloaded from its informational website. A list is made quarterly of the articles that are most downloaded in each of 24 categories.
