At the undergraduate level, the Department of Mechanical Engineering offers a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree (BME). The curriculum is designed to meet the education requirements of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology Inc., ABET, and the engineering profession. The Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET has accredited the Auburn's Mechanical Engineering program with the last visit in 2004.

Current Curriculum Model

Complete information about the current Curriculum Model is in the following documents:

Pre-Requisite and Pre-Requisites with Concurrence

A useful graphical representation of the organization of courses is available with prerequisite information. These charts are offered as a suggested way to complete the curriculum in four years. Transfer students, students who are "off-schedule" and students taking program specializations will need to make appropriate adjustments.

Program Specializations

Because of the breadth of mechanical engineering opportunities, the department offers a number of program specializations that provide unique training and course selection to those students who wish to concentrate in a particular area or technology. The current program specializations are automotive engineering and Pulp/paper/bio-resource engineering.

Technical Electives

Technical electives are courses above and beyond the required courses that allow mechanical engineering students to broaden or deepen their engineering knowledge. Three technical electives are required. Students may select any technical elective from the courses available. Students in a specialization must utilize their technical electives from a list specified by the specialization. Information and a schedule of course offerings is available in the following document: BME Technical Elective Schedule
