What is your mission as a company?

Innovate Boldly. Package Sustainability. WestRock is committed to creating a better future for the world. By 2025, 100% of WestRock’s products will be recyclable, compostable, or reusable.

What is your company culture?

It is a fun and inclusive culture. I love my job and it is because of the work environment. We also find time to laugh and have a good time. We experience many high stress situations but work together as a team to be successful. I have never felt alone or unsupported in any project that I have been involved in. I am challenged daily and have always had the support of my peers and management needed to be successful.

What are your recommendations for seeking mentorship and support in the workplace

When I first started this job, my focus was to build relationships initially. After strong relationships were established, the mentorship followed naturally. If a mentorship doesn’t naturally fall into place, I recommend that you speak to your manager for advice.

How do I ask for help as a professional?

It is important to be humble and direct. Never be embarrassed to ask for help.

What is one piece of advice that you would give to your college-aged self?

Don’t be embarrassed about your lack of knowledge in the field that you are studying. Everyone has been there, and you will learn and gain confidence with experience.

How can my Auburn Engineering education best prepare me for the world of work?

Your Auburn Engineering education will challenge you and prepare you to be creative and think outside the box. It will take a lot of hard work and determination to obtain an Auburn engineering degree. This mindset is necessary in the world of engineering.

If you were to hire someone to work with you today, what factors would be most important in your hiring decision and why?

I have the opportunity to hire and manage the co-ops at the facility that I work. I always look for someone who carries themselves with humility, has a good attitude, and is willing to do any task necessary for the success of the team.

What types of experiences, paid employment, or otherwise, would you most strongly recommend?

I strongly recommend completing a 3-semester co-op. This experience is priceless and prepares you to hit the ground running as soon as you graduate. In many cases, it leads to a full-time job after graduation.
