Students participating in the Interdisciplinary Studies for Sensor and Biosensor Development summer program recently made their final poster presentations in the Shelby Center's Lowe Grand Foyer.
The posters described the student's research on sensors whose uses ranged from sensors to measure contamination in food products, such as salmonella and other pathogenic bacteria, and chemical sensors for monitoring environmental conditions in offices or improving the performance of fuel cells.
The students had worked on research projects under the direction of mentors
from the Materials Research and Education Center and the departments of Poultry
Science, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering
and Polymer and Fiber Engineering.
This program is sponsored by the Research Experience for Undergraduate (REU) Site Program of the National Science Foundation, a collaboration with the Department of Defense through the Awards to Stimulate and Support Undergraduate Research Experiences (ASSURE) program.
