REU Students Present Posters on Sensor Applications

Students participating in the Interdisciplinary Studies for Sensor and Biosensor Development summer program recently made their final poster presentations in the Shelby Center's Lowe Grand Foyer.

The posters described the student's research on sensors whose uses ranged from sensors to measure contamination in food products, such as salmonella and other pathogenic bacteria, and chemical sensors for monitoring environmental conditions in offices or improving the performance of fuel cells. Biosystems Student Chapter Wins Award

ASABE logo Auburn's Delta Beta chapter of Alpha Epsilon, the honors society for agricultural and biological engineering, has been recognized as the most improved chapter for 2008 among all U.S. and international chapters. Faculty and students in the Department of Biosystems Engineering were honored at the annual international meeting of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE), which recently took place in Providence, R.I. CE Graduate Student Recognized at International Conference

Kendra Peters, a graduate student in the Department of Civil Engineering, recently won the best student presentation award at the International Conference on Heavy Vehicles held in Paris, France. Her presentation, "Effects of Increasing Truck Weight Limit on Highway Infrastructure Damage," was among 101 presentations made by students and practicing engineers/researchers from 26 countries.

Peters' advisor is David Timm, Gottlieb Associate Professor of Civil Engineering.

Willis Awarded AAPT Graduate Scholarship

J. Richard Willis, a doctoral student in civil engineering, was recently selected as a 2008 recipient of the Association of Asphalt Paving Technologists (AAPT) graduate scholarship. This national scholarship is funded by AAPT to increase the number of scientists and engineers available for careers in the area of asphalt cement or asphalt concrete technology. Read more >>
