High school math teams compete at Auburn

Math-A-Thon studentsThe Auburn University College of Sciences and Mathematics and the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering recently gave high school students from schools across the state a chance to test their math skills against their peers.

AU Math-a-thon 2008 participants took a written exam of thirty comprehensive multiple choice questions. The top eight schools from each school were then invited to participate in either a team problem solving activity called the "School Bowl," or a ciphering quiz. Students not involved in the school bowl and the ciphering competitions will participated in the interschool "Aubie Bowl."

Awards were given in two divisions: division one included all 6A public and all private and magnet schools, and division two included all 1A through 5A public schools.

Winning teams included Grissom High School, from Hunstville, Ala., Handley High School from Roanoke, Ala, and Northside High School from Northport, Ala.  For more information, contact Mary Lou Ewald at 334.844.5745 or ewaldml@auburn.edu.
