Seniors Brian Downs, Jonathan Hill and Brian Sullivan have been selected as recipients
of scholarships awarded by the Tau Beta Pi engineering honor society. Downs and
Sullivan are students in chemical engineering; Hill is a student in mechanical
engineering.
Downs received the 2006 Distinguished Alumnus Scholarship, an award made possible
by Tau Beta Pi alumnus H.V. Poor. Hill's scholarship is supported by the Alabama
Power Foundation. He was the sixth student since 1995 to receive the award. Sullivan
received the Record Scholarship, an award funded through a donation made in 2001
by Tau Beta Pi alumnus Leroy Record. Each student received $2,000 to use in his
senior year of engineering study.
Tau Beta Pi is the only engineering honor society that represents the entire
engineering profession. It is the nation's second-oldest honor society, with chapters
at 230 colleges and universities across the country.
