Aubie Visits Shelby Center Construction Site

Aubie with SCET workersAubie recently paid a visit to construction workers at the new Shelby Center for Engineering Technology. Phase One of this project, with a projected completion date of fall 2007 and budget of just over $53 million, is the largest construction project ever for the Auburn campus.

AU construction manager Mitch Walley reports that on an average day there are more than 125 workers on site. Birmingham-based firm Hoar Construction manages the overall project and provides oversight for eight prime contractors - six of which are based in Alabama.

Bailey Harris Construction, Auburn Electric, AMCO Engineering, Brendle Sprinkler, Elevator Maintenance and Repair, and Selective Masonry all hail from Alabama. Rounding out the list are specialty companies Kewaunee from N.C. and N.Y.-based IEC.
