Course Requirements

A minimum of 33 semester hours of course credits must be completed, satisfying the following requirements.

  • Graduate School Minimum Requirements:
    • Courses must be 6000/7000/8000 level.
    • A minimum of 21 semester credits in the major area.
    • A minimum of 24 semester credits taken at Auburn.
  • Additional Electrical & Computer Engineering Requirements:
    • At least 18 semester hours of ELEC graduate courses must be completed, excluding ELEC 7900 and seminar courses. A deviation from this requirement may be permitted, as appropriate, with the approval of the major professor and the department chair.
    • At least one course must be taken in three of the six research areas:
      • Computer Systems(62xx,72xx,82xx, 6150)
      • Electromagnetics(63xx,73xx,83xx)
      • Communications(64xx,74xx,84xx, 6100,6110,6120)
      • Control Systems(65xx,75xx,85xx)
      • Power Systems(66xx,76xx,86xx)
      • Electronics(67xx,77xx,87xx, 6130)
    • No more than 3 semester hours of independent study (ELEC 7900 or equivalent) can be included.
    • No more than 3 semester hours of seminar (ELEC 7950 or equivalent) can be included.
    • ELEC 7990 (Research and Thesis) cannot be included.
  • A formal plan of study must be approved by the student's major professor and filed with the Graduate School. A masters student selects either the M.S. (thesis) or M.S. (non-thesis) degree at the time of filing the plan of study.>/del>
