The Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering has collaborated with the Air Force to develop a one-day seminar that provided a hands-on demonstration of cyber attacks. Seminars were offered to senior officers attending the Air War College, as well as to mid-level officers attending the Air Command and Staff College. Another group of 14 officers attended the cyber demo. Approximately half of the attendees were officers from other countries. Lively discussions about government oversight of national cyber security were involved in the session.
Three more sessions have been scheduled for spring 2016. Students enrolled in the department's cyber security courses, as well as students in the Scholarship for Service program, conducted the seminars and demonstrations under the supervision of professor David Umphress.
