Saad Biaz has accepted a three-year grant of $320,000 from the National Science Foundation to continue his Research Experience for Undergraduates Site program on Smart Unmanned Aerial Vehicles.
Out of more than 200 applicants each year, eight to 12 undergraduates are selected from across the nation to come to Auburn University during the summer to work on research problems related to UAVs. In total, the NSF has awarded Biaz more than $1.5 million for his REU site program since 2003. These funds have allowed 120 undergraduates to enjoy a research experience they would not have otherwise.
Many of these students have published high quality papers, joined high-ranking graduate programs and were hired by the top U.S. companies working in the field of UAVs, including Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and L3-Unmanned Systems.
