GPO Response to COVID-19

Dear CSSE Graduate Students,

Based on the latest COVID-19 developments and best practices recommended by Auburn University authorities, I will hold the GPO office hours over Zoom (see GPO virtual office below) starting from Monday, March 16 and lasting through the end of the summer semester. The GPO office hours are scheduled from 1:30 to 2:00 p.m. on every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. In case I am talking with another student over Zoom during the office hours, you will have to wait in the Zoom waiting room to be admitted.

GPO Virtual Office. My personal meeting room is https://auburn.zoom.us/my/xiao.qin

GPO Services through Email Requests. To avert waiting a long time in the GPO virtual office, you may send emails requesting me to facilitate the following services. The average email response time on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday is four hours; the response time is slashed to one hour on Tuesday and Thursday; the expected response time on weekends is 8 hours.
  • International Graduate Assistantship Award Form (a.k.a., IGAA)
  • Recommended plan of study
  • Curriculum change forms (e.g., add PhD into your Master’s degree program)
  • Gold forms for international Master’s students
  • Committee selection forms for Master’s students
  • Curricular practical training for summer internship (International Students)

A Healthier U. Auburn University introduces A Healthier U, which is a comprehensive plan helping the faculty and Auburn students to keep the campus community safe and provides a roadmap for continuing Auburn’s exceptional academic and student life programs.  This all-in approach includes the following three plans that foster the Auburn Family to be unified and fully committed to new safety protocols.

  • Operational Plan. The Auburn family is taking extra steps to ensure a campus that is as healthy as possible.
  • Student Plan. The Auburn student experience in and out of the classroom remains strong but will look different in some ways as we face a new normal.
  • Academic Plan. New or amended resources and options are available to maximize Auburn’s support for students, faculty and staff.
  • Graduate School Resources. A collection of resources offered by the graduate school.
  • Auburn COVID-19 Resource Center. This center is a hub designed to coordinate responses to the coronavirus. Staffed by a multidisciplinary team, the center offers accessible resources for COVID-19-related questions and information from Auburn faculty, staff, students and parents..
International Graduate Students. The International students should coordinate with the Office of International Programs (i.e., OIP) for travel signatures and future visa documents before any departures. OIP has created a COVID-19 FAQs webpage here: COVID-19-FAQs

Leaving Auburn and Returning Home. Graduate students who are not graduate assistants may leave Auburn as they deem appropriate and in accordance with travel restrictions. It is the responsibility of each student to ensure that they have sufficient access to all required online resources to complete courses remotely.

If you are a graduate assistant (GTA or/and GRA),  you should work with your supervisor to determine how to best handle assistantship responsibilities. Graduate assistants should consult with their major professors and assistantship supervisors to determine if their responsibilities should be performed remotely or on-campus with appropriate safe guards.

Sincerely yours,
Xiao Qin
