Academic Programs

The Department of Civil Engineering offers on-campus programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Opportunities are also available for off-campus education.

Undergraduate Program

The Department of Civil Engineering offers undergraduate programs that award Bachelor of Civil Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science degrees. The department ranks in the top 15 programs nationwide in the number of undergraduate degrees awarded annually, and is the largest CE program in Alabama.

Graduate Program

The Department Civil Engineering offers graduate programs that award the Doctoral (PhD) degree, the Master of Science (MS-thesis option) degree, and the Master of Civil Engineering (MCE- Non thesis option). According to the graduate school ranking released by U.S. News & World Report in 2005, the Auburn Civil Engineering Graduate Program was ranked 48th of the US programs. At the graduate level, students can specialize in following areas:

Distance Education (Off-Campus)

The Department participates in two different off-campus educational opportunities:

  • Graduate Outreach Program. This is an off-campus for-credit program with coursework offered at your home or office via videotape, leading to a Master of Civil Engineering degree with an emphasis in environmental engineering.
  • Engineering Continuing Education. These are non-credit professional development courses, conferences, and workshops in both business (management) and engineering. These courses do not count for credit towards a college degree, but they do provide continuing education units (CEUs).
