Thomas Walter Center for Technology Management

History

John Thomas Walter received a degree in engineering physics from Auburn University in 1955 and has become one if its most accomplished graduates. In 1989, a gift to Auburn University enabled the establishment of the Thomas Walter Center for Technology Management to honor Mr. Tom Walter to train engineering and business students in common programs and to study and improve the solutions to problems at the interface between business and engineering. The Thomas Walter Center for Technology Management at Auburn University is a joint effort of the colleges of business and engineering at Auburn University. In 2006, Mr. Tom Walter made a generous gift to help the Center continue to pursue its worthy mission.

Tom Walter, a Selma, Alabama native, is an esteemed member of the Auburn University Foundation, where his extensive experience is valued on the investment committee. Walter is also a force in civic life in his adopted state of Texas where he has served on the boards of Zale Lipshy University Hospital, Southwestern Medical Foundation, the Salvation Army and the Perot Foundation.

Research and curriculum development activities of the Thomas Walter Center are made possible by endowments, gifts, Auburn University funds, and research sponsors including the National Science Foundation (USA). The Center works in collaboration with like-minded universities. Two major initiatives of the center are the Business-Engineering-Technology (B-E-T) minor for business and engineering students, and the Technology Commercialization.

The center has had collaborations with the University of Plymouth and The Indian Institute of Technology (Delhi) for delivering the B-E-T minor.
