Auburn University
Director and Faculty Positions To Support The
Institute for Reconfigurable Smart Components for
Next Generation Information Technology

Auburn University invites nominations and applications for four tenure track faculty positions including the Director. The Institute involves the Departments of Computer Science and Software Engineering (CSSE) and Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) in a new university initiative to develop Pinnacles of Excellence.

The Institute

The Institute will focus College expertise on Reconfigurable Smart Components. The research includes:

Creation of enabling technology for reconfigurable smart components, and the transfer of the technology, as appropriate, to industry.
Enhancement of the graduate research programs in the College of Engineering by adding new highly qualified faculty and increasing the level of extramural funding.

A reconfigurable smart component is an augmented version of a standard component (what constitutes a 'component' will depend on the system in question). The augmentation, consisting of both hardware and software, provides a way for the component to participate in an ad-hoc network of other similar components and a way for the system as a whole to connect to larger, more permanent networks. Communication may be via direct connection or wireless.

The University will invest over $1M (estimated) in five years in new positions with an objective of gaining national prominence in the area over this time period.

Description of Positions

Director Position (12 month)

The Director will report to the Dean of Engineering on matters related to the Institute and has responsibility for coordinating and managing the research effort, as well as providing much of the vision and direction for the Institute. The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellence in leading a research effort in the information technology area and developing partnerships with government and industry. While it is anticipated that candidates with the credentials and reputation to assume this position would qualify for appointment at the Professor level, outstanding candidates eligible for appointment at Associate or Assistant Professor will also be considered.

Three faculty positions (9 month) in the areas of:

1) Systems Software (CSSE)

2) RF Devices and Circuits, including TCAD Software (ECE)

3) Computer Networks (CSSE)

Successful candidates for these tenure track positions will possess a Ph.D. in Computer Science or the appropriate engineering discipline. Rank within one of the involved departments and salary will be commensurate with qualifications. Candidates must plan to strongly impact the research program in the institute, and will have teaching responsibilities within the department.
