Orbital and attitude dynamics about an irregularly shaped small body.


In Planetary Sciences, a planetary small body usually means asteroids and comets, which are categorized as smaller bodies than dwarf planets. These objects are usually irregularly shaped and may have heterogeneous mass distributions. In such cases, the gravity fields around these bodies are very different from those around spheres, and thus orbital and attitude dynamics about these bodies becomes complex. Detailed characterizations of the dynamics require sophisticated mathematical expressions and numerical techniques. Our group investigates this problem developing our own technologies.
