Short Biography and Research Interests

I am a faculty member of Computer Science and Software Engineering and Industrial & Systems Engineering (via joint appointment) in the College of Engineering at Auburn University. Prior to joining faculty in 2003, I was a senior research engineer in the Simulation and Software Division of Trident Systems Incorporated, in Fairfax, Virginia, where I worked as a senior research engineer and principle investigator for projects that involve advanced simulation theory and methodology development as well as simulation composability and interoperability efforts. I earned my Ph.D. and M.S. degrees from Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University. My research interests are in

  • Agent-directed Simulation and its applications in

    • Advancing the theory and methodology of modeling and computer simulation via novel  formalisms - autonomic introspective simulation, symbiotic adaptive multisimulation - and their use in decision/creativity support systems

    • Socio-technical/cognitive/cultural systems - simulation for conflict and peace studies, simulation of cooperative knowledge processing/problem solving, systems models of creativity and innovation, social simulation of software projects, organizations, and processes.

  • Design science and education

Quote - "The old definition of computer science - the study of phenomena surrounding computers - is now obsolete. Computing is the study of natural and artificial information processes."  - Peter J. Denning

I am a member of ACM, IEEE Computer Society, Society for Computer Simulation International (SCS - http://www.scs.org), and Upsilon Pi Epsilon. During 2004-2006, I served as the secretary of SCS. I was then elected by the members of the Society for Modeling Simulation International to its board of directors for the 2006-2008 biennium. I also serve as an advisor to Workforce Development Committee of the Alabama Modeling and Simulation Council (http://www.amsc.to).
